CEO Jeff Smulyan says Emmis Communications has solved its major structural problems – although there’s still work to do – and he’s giving credit to a lot of dedicated and hard-working employees. Long one of radio’s cheerleaders, Smulyan declared that advertisers are beginning to understand the value of the medium and he’s optimistic about the remainder of the fiscal year for Emmis.
Emmis reported that revenues were down in its fiscal Q2 (June-August), but with radio revenues up excluding the three stations recently sold to Merlin Media. And while the publishing side was down, Smulyan said there is beginning to be some traction seen there.
So, the CEO was upbeat about the quarter just past and what lies ahead.
