"SNL Presents A Very Gilly Christmas” gives NBC a little push

From 8-10:01 p.m. ET, “Saturday Night Live Presents A Very Gilly Christmas” (3.1/9 in 18-49, 7.8 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the time period in most key ratings categories and was #1 among the major networks in adults, men and women 18-34 ahead of CBS’s “Survivor” and “CSI” originals and encore competition on ABC and Fox.  “Saturday Night Live Presents A Very Gilly Christmas” scored NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in this time period since October 8.and hit a season high in total viewers.


These are the top 18-49 and total-viewer results for a “Saturday Night Live” primetime telecast in more than a year, since the Monday, Nov. 3, 2008 9-11 p.m. special “Presidential Bash 2008” (5.6/13 in 18-49, 14.4 million viewers overall).

From 10:01-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged a 1.7/5 in adults 18-49, a 2.0/5 in adults 25-54 and 5.2 million viewers overall.  Last night’s competition in the time slot included CBS’s “The Mentalist” original and ABC’s “Private Practice” encore.

Pending updates, “The Jay Leno Show” is delivering its highest 18-49 and total-viewer results for a Thursday telecast in nine weeks (since October 15).  In the time period, “Jay Leno” ranks #2 among the major networks in all key ratings categories — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers.

This marks the fourth consecutive night that “The Jay Leno Show” has out-delivered an ABC drama in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, topping ABC’s “Castle” encore on Monday, a “Forgotten” rebroadcast on Tuesday, an original “Eastwick” on Wednesday and a “Private Practice” encore on Thursday.  Monday’s “Jay Leno” hit a nine-week high, Wednesday’s edition matched a nine-week high and Thursday’s telecast has also achieved a nine-week high (pending updates).. 

Comparisons with Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” are: in adults 18-49, 1.7 vs. 1.4; in adults 25-54, 2.0 vs. 1.8; and in total viewers, 5.2 million vs. 5.1 million.  Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to the “Jay Leno” debut are: in adults 18-49, 1.7 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 2.0 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 5.2 million vs. 6.9 million.

In Late-Night Local People Meters Thursday night:

Conan O’Brien (1.2/5 in 18-49 in local people meters) topped CBS’s LATE SHOW (1.0/4) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.

At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.8/5 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.6/4).
