USA FlagAnd in all likelihood, it will be cooking out of doors, according to a study from the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights and Analysis. A huge number of Americans will be engaged in outdoor dining activities.


And they’re planning to spend more this year than last.

156 million consumers, almost two thirds of the 156 million celebrants, will be attending a cookout, picnic or barbeque, according to the study. The number is pegged at 64.4%.

The total spent on holiday food is expected to be $6.6 billion.

“The busiest half of the year for retailers is about to begin, and with economic conditions swaying in consumers’ favor more so this year than last, many seem eager to take advantage of retailers’ promotions,” said NRF President and CEO Mathew Shay.

Although not among the big spending holidays, other than the food purchases, NRF noted that 22.8% will hit the stores in search of patriotic gear.
