The early betting line on the date for the State of the Union Address was Tuesday, January 26. Then Tuesday, February 2 began to get significant action – but the actual date is now pinned down: Wednesday, January 27. It will kick off at 9PM eastern.
According to Politico, the administration was flirting with the February date in hopes of having solid action on health care reform, but bowed to network wishes to avoid preemptions during a Nielsen ratings period.
The networks have plenty of time to consider schedule juggling. The biggest affected property will be a 9PM airing of “American Idol” on Fox, which will likely shift forward to 8PM.
