The Supreme Court will have an opening soon, with the expected exit of David Souter at the end on the current term. That gives President Obama a chance to make his first Supreme pick, and it gives watchdogs from coast to coast the opportunity to buy airtime to influence the pick.
RBR/TVBR observation: When President Bush nominated John Thomas and Samuel Alito to the high court it was an excuse for the influence crowd to open their wallets and put their views out. The best thing about Souter’s timing is that he picked an off-year when the political category is slow and the group’s cash is burning a hole in their pockets.
