NBC Sports Group can start booking facilities in Pyeongchang, South Korea for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee announced Wednesday (7/6) that South Korea had been selected over bids by Germany and France to host the 2018 Olympics.

The 2018 Winter Games are in the package of US TV rights to four Olympics recently won by NBC Sports Group for $4.38 billion. At the time the bidders didn’t know where the 2018 and 2020 games would be held. The decision on the 2020 Summer Games is yet to be made, but we now know that the Winter Olympics will be held in Asia in 2018 for the first time since the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

The upcoming Olympics schedule is:

-2012 Summer Games in London

-2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia

-2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

-2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea

Pyeongchang is 112 miles east of Seoul in the Taebaek Mountains region. It is South Korea’s most famous winter sports area. South Korea has already been building some of the infrastructure to host a Winter Olympics, despite having lost in previous bids for the 2010 and 2014 Games. Now perseverance has paid off and, unlike most Olympic host countries, South Korea is ahead of schedule on getting ready for the 2018 Games.
