Southern Georgia AM hangs out for sale sign

WSBX-AM is for sale, and the situation is being described as a “once in a lifetime ground floor opportunity” for a prospective owner looking to break into the radio business. Seller Georgia Triangle Broadcasting is trolling for prospective buyers on Craigslist.

The station is a daytimer on 1020 kHz – it fires off 10 kW without the need for a directional antenna. It is licensed to Ochlocknee GA, which is a bit north of Thomasville GA, which in turn is part of the Tallahassee FL Arbitron market.

In the headline of the Craigslist item, it says: “Radio Station For Sale Cheap! – $149995 (Tallahassee Florida Radio Market).”

The ad claims the station’s signal carries all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, to Albany GA to the north, to Valdosta GA to the east, and when the weather is right, all the way to parts of the Dothan AL market to the west.

If a qualified buyer is found pronto,by 1/21/11, the studio/tower rental will be free for a year. Otherwise, the seller pegs the cost at “only” $1.5K monthly. Of course, any sale will be contingent on FCC approval.
