Monday’s (12/27/10) grand finale of  “Soy Tu Dueña” was not only the top-ranked show for the night in the big money 18-49 demo, but made it the top primetime novela in US television history. The broadcast reached a total of 9.4 million viewers.

“Soy Tu Dueña” (which the network strangely translates as Woman of Steel) delivered its highest-ranked telecast since its premiere. Monday night’s airing of “Soy Tu Dueña” averaged 7.3 million Total Viewers 2+, 4.0 million Adults 18-49, 2.1 million Adults 18-34 and 2.5 million Persons 12-34. As part of the network’s powerhouse primetime novela block (which also includes the original production “Eva Luna”), “Soy Tu Dueña” helped Univision become the #1 broadcast network in the time period as well as for the entire night (8-11 pm) among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Men and Women 18-49, Men and Women 18-34, and Persons 12-34, among other key demos, regardless of language, the network proudly reported.

Since its premiere in June 2010, “Soy Tu Dueña” delivered an average audience of 5.4 million Total Viewers 2+, making it the most-watched Spanish-language novela in US television history.

The current TV season has Univision posting big growth in the 18-49 demo, while its English competitors are mostly down.

Due in part to the strength of this novela – featuring popular actress/singer Lucero (Valentina) alongside superstar Fernando Colunga (Jose Miguel) and antagonist Gabriela Spanic (Ivana) –Univision is reporting double-digit percentage growth during broadcast prime (M-Sat 8-11pm, Su 7-11pm) among Adults 18-49 (+13%) compared to ABC‘s (-8%), CBS’ (-1%), FOX’s (-15%), NBC’s (+1%) and CW’s (+4%) in the current 2010/2011 Season versus the same period in the 2009/2010 Season. Additionally, Univision is also showing year-over-year audience gains among Adults 18-34 (+11%) and Total Viewers 2+ (+9%).

“We are extremely proud of the success of ‘Soy Tu Dueña’ and the historic imprint it has left in the television industry in the U.S.,” said Luis Fernández, president of Entertainment for Univision Network and of Univision Studios. “This is a great example of the ongoing popularity of the novela genre among US viewers of all ages and the power and reach of Univision’s primetime lineup.”

What’s next? Univision’s next 9:00 pm novela, beginning January 3, will be “Triunfo del Amor” (Triumph of Love), which reunites popular stars Maité Perroni (“Cuidado con el Ángel,” “Mi Pecado”) and William Levy (“Cuidado con el Ángel,” “Sortilegio”). Produced by Salvador Mejía, creator of blockbuster novelas such as “Mundo de Fieras” (Love and Cruelty) and “La Madrastra” (The Stepmother), the novela’s stellar cast also includes actresses Victoria Ruffo and Daniela Romo, as well as Osvaldo Ríos, Salvador Pineda, Dominika Paleta, Carmen Salinas, Pablo Montero, and soccer superstar Cuauhtémoc Blanco, making his acting debut.

RBR-TVBR observation: It is still big news when Univision, a Spanish network, beats all of the big four English networks. It is becoming more and more common for Univision to beat one or two of the big four on any given night and we expect it won’t be many years until that becomes routine.
