Spending takes a holiday

By many accounts, Black Friday was a decent day for retailers, but according to America’s Research Group, it was just about the only decent day, as spooked consumers went into tightwad mode and forced deep discounts and slim margins from retailers. One expert is expecting that the final tally for stores in operation during both the 2007 and 2008 holiday seasons will come in at minus 1.5% or minus 2%.
