A deal for WPRJ-FM Coleman MI will give noncommercial radio owner its third station in as many states. The buyer is Spirit Communications Inc., headed by John Shumate Sr.

Although the station is located considerably north on the radio dial of the commercial-noncommercial divide at 101.7 MHz, the seller is also a noncommercial outfit – it’s Partnership Ministries Inc. d/b/a Passion Communications. It’s headed by Rich Welke.

The price for the station is $100K cash. An LMA will go into effect until closing. The station also comes with FM translator W244BS.

WPRJ is a Class A with 4.6 kW @ 374’. It serves a part of Michigan to the northwest of Saginaw.

It will become part of a portfolio that is anything but regional. One station isn’t too far away, although it’s far enough: WUFM-FM Columbus OH. Spirit’s other station is KRQZ-FM, licensed to Lompoc CA.
