SpotifyThe new numbers are in for streaming service Spotify, and it is pleased with the growth it has achieved over the course of one year. Of course, something else has grown – the amount it pays in royalties.

According to Spotify, it has 10 million paid subscribers at the end of May 2014.

It now claims exactly double that – 20 million.

In addition, its active user tally has grown almost at the same rate, rising from 40 million to 75 million.

The service seems proud of its contribution to the musical community. In a blog post, it said, “And, more people listening on Spotify means more payouts to the creators of the music you love.  As we grow, the amount of royalties we pay out to artists, songwriters and rights holders continues to climb faster than ever.”

It says it paid $300M during the first quarter of 2015 and has now paid out more than $3B since it went into business.
