Sound Ideas, Serious Problems For Southern Radio Operator

The last six years have been less than kind to a South Carolina-based broadcaster named Stan Griffin. His company, Sound Ideas, saw an April 2014 license cancellation for an AM station in the town of Kershaw, S.C., that had been silent for 15 months. Two years later, in March 2016, Griffin agreed to a sale of an AM/FM combo in Eufala, Ala. The incoming owners assumed control via a time brokerage agreement.

Then, everything unraveled in Alabama. The couple that planned to buy the stations pulled out. The stations went silent. Now, Griffin is entering into a FCC consent decree.

It seems the stations’ sale wasn’t permissible.

Oh, and there’s a matter involving a station contest that ended prematurely, with the prizes being handed to Sound Ideas employees.
