“THIS WEEK” IS #2 AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS AND ADULTS 25-54

“THIS WEEK” CLOSES TOTAL VIEWING GAP WITH “MEET THE PRESS” FOR THE 40TH TIME THIS YEAR

ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” was the #2 Sunday morning discussion program among both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 on Sunday, December 13, according to Nielsen Media Research.

In addition, “This Week” continues to close the gaps with NBC’s “Meet the Press.” For the 40th time this year “This Week” narrowed the total viewing year-to-year gap with “Meet” by 52% (740,000 in 2009 vs. 1,530.000 in 2008), which does not include the shows when ABC was number one. Among Adults 25-54, “This Week” cut into the NBC show’s demo lead by 63% (240,000 vs. 640,000) compared to the same week last year.

January 1, 2009 to present versus the same period in 2008, “This Week” has cut into “Meet’s” total viewing lead by 63% (490,000 in 2009 vs. 1,330,000 in 2008). Among Adults 25-54, the gap has narrowed by 57% (200,000 in 2009 vs. 460,000 in 2008).

Please note that last Sunday “This Week” was pre-empted in two of the top 25 markets: Dallas, due to coverage of a local marathon, and Pittsburgh, due to local news coverage.

George Stephanopoulos’ guests last Sunday were NEC Director Lawrence Summers and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA). The roundtable featured George Will, Ed Gillespie, Arianna Huffington, John Podesta, and April Ryan.

George Stephanopoulos is the anchor of “This Week” and Ian Cameron is the executive producer. The program airs Sundays on the ABC Television Network.
