There may be some big names called to testify in the trial of Ted Stevens (R-AK) on charges that he withheld information on value received from certain constituents back in Alaska. Among those being mentioned are several sitting senators and former General and Secretary of State Colin Powell. Stevens’ counterpart on the Commerce Committee Daniel Inouye (D-HI) is on the list of potential witnesses, along with Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT). However, the focus yesterday was on the far more obscure citizens who will make up the jury. The trial is expected to last about a month. Stevens will be splitting time between court in Washington and the campaign trail in Alaska, where he is facing a challenge from Anchorage mayor Mark Begich (D-AK).
