Stocks end lower; Dow off 140 points

Stocks ended sharply lower on Monday, following a 5.3% tumble in the Shanghai stock market overnight spurred by worries over China’s economy and banking system. Stocks pared some of their losses in the afternoon after Fed officials tried to downplay talk of tapering the central bank’s bond-buying program. After dropping 248 points during the session, the Dow ended down 139.84 points, or 0.9%, at 14,659.56.


The RBR Radio Index was down 7.715, or 1.2%, to 615.925.

The TVBR Television Index was down 10.016, or 1.5%, to 675.946.
