Energy stocks dropped sharply after US Attorney General Eric Holder announced that a criminal investigation was underway into the oil spill still gushing in the Gulf of Mexico. That spread to the broader market and sent stock prices lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 113 points, or 1.1%, to 10,024. Broadcasting stocks joined in the retreat.
The RBR Radio Index was down 9.769, or 2.4%, to 395.324.
The TVBR Television Index was down 8.080, or 4%, to 193.332.
