WWL-TV (CBS) New Orleans reports that reporter Susan Edwards has lost a yearlong battle with cancer. She was 34.

Edwards joined the station’s news team in 2007. She was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2009, but when tumors spread to her lungs the disease became more difficult to treat. Edwards had recently been undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and some experimental drug treatments while living with her family in her native Alabama. She died Wednesday (12/29) at her mother’s home in Rainbow City, AL.

“Susie faced this battle with a strength and courage that was unimaginable,” said WWL anchor and interim News Director Mike Hoss.

A funeral service was set for Friday, December 31, in Attalla, AL. Edwards had requested that her ashes be spread in four places, including the French Quarter of New Orleans.
