Swap translates into Utica AM

0

Charles Williamson’s Charles Williamson has a very unusual deal sitting at the FCC. He’ll be getting WRUN-AM New Hartford NY, in the Utica-Rome market, in exchange for a Cooperstown NY FM translator. Even more amazing is that there is also a cash component to the deal, and the cash is flowing in Williamson’s direction too.

Williamson’s company is Digital Radio Broadcasting Inc., and his swapping partner is noncommercial WAMC Northeast Public Radio, under Alan Chartock.

In exchange for WRUN, WAMC will receive W248AN Cooperstown and its CP to morph into W247BM. And WAMC will also give DRB $20K.

The license for WRUN will have to be modified to allow for commercial operation.

Digital Radio Broadcasting has no other properties in the Utica area, but this will become its fourth AM station, joining WYNY-AM Middletown NY (Newburgh-Middletown), WMJQ-AM Ontario NY (Rochester) and WQCD-AM, in the unrated town of Milford PA.
