Talk radio blamed for Tucson killings (video)

Before there was any indication what prompted a young man to go on a shooting rampage in Tucson, killing a federal judge and five other people and critically injuring a congresswoman, the local sheriff was behind a group of microphones assigning blame. According to Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik (pictured), talk radio was responsible.

Sheriff Dupnik, a Democrat, provided no evidence to support his claim that the suspect was influenced by radio talk shows. Nonetheless, his comments, seen below, were picked up by media reports around the globe.

RBR-TVBR observation: This is irresponsible and idiotic. The sheriff has no evidence whatsoever to support his claim. It would be quite unusual for a 22-year-old to be a talk radio fanatic. Nor is there any evidence that any conventional political viewpoint motivated his attack. The young man had posted a YouTube video complaining that the way we number years is wrong and must be changed. We’re not aware of any political group, left, right or whatever, which has made that a major issue.
