‘Target Market News’ Founder Ken Smikle Dies

Some 30 years ago, Ken Smikle launched a trade journal focused squarely on business developments in advertising, marketing and media targeted to black consumers.


As the President of Target Market News, Smikle also attracted the attention of radio and TV station owners across the U.S. for his annual report, The Buying Power of Black America. The company also hosts the annual Marketing to African Americans with Excellence (MAAX) Summit, a two-day conference for senior executives engaged in African-American marketing, media and research.

Today, marketers, advertisers and media executives are pausing to remember Smikle, who passed away Sept. 12 after a brief illness.
