Sinclair Broadcast Group announced a deal with Local TV LLC to have Local TV’s WHO-TV (NBC) Des Moines produce the 9:00 pm newscast for Sinclair’s KDSM-TV (Fox). KDSM had been producing a half-hour newscast, but it will be expanded to a full hour as WHO takes over in September.
According to the Des Moines Register, the current KDSM 9:00 pm newscast has only a 4% share in its time slot, while WHO’s 10:00 pm newscast has a 14% share.
"With the Channel 13 news team and resources we will be able to bring Central Iowa great coverage and more in-depth stories of local community news, sports and weather," said KDSM General Manager Mike Wilson.
"We’re excited about expanding the ‘Channel 13 News’ brand and taking this product to the next level. This is a tremendous opportunity to service central Iowa viewers in this relatively new time period,” said Dale Woods, Regional Vice President for Local TV and General Manager of WHO-TV.
