Ted Koppel joining NBC's Rock Center

Former ABC “Nightline” host Ted Koppel is returning to network television as special correspondent for NBC’s “Rock Center with Brian Williams.” The new primetime newsmagazine will debut on Halloween, Monday, October 31st.

In a statement, Williams said he wanted Rock Center to be “the Cooperstown of our craft,” referring to the site of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. “Ted is a consensus Hall of Famer, joining the best team of men and women on the air today,” Williams said, adding that “it’s an enormous honor to work with this giant and former competitor.”

Since leaving ABC News about six years ago Koppel has produced long-form programs for Discovery Channel.

NBC News had previously announced that Rock Center correspondents will include Harry Smith, Kate Snow, Meredith Vieira, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, Richard Engel, Matt Lauer and Ann Curry.
