TEGNA has decided who will succeed its retiring EVP and Chief Legal and Administrative Office once he departs in early 2019.
Akin Harrison has been named SVP/General Counsel and Secretary. Harrison will lead TEGNA’s legal department and serve as a member of the company’s leadership team following the retirement of Todd Mayman.
Harrison has served in roles of increasing responsibility within TEGNA’s legal department since joining the company as assistant general counsel in 2003. Harrison is currently SVP/Associate General Counsel and Secretary. He provides advice and support to TEGNA’s leadership team and board of directors on a variety of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities law and corporate governance.
“Akin has been instrumental to our legal department since he joined the company,” TEGNA President/CEO Dave Lougee commented. “He helped lead our acquisition of KFMB in San Diego earlier this year and is currently guiding us through our proposed acquisitions of WTOL in Toledo, and KWES in Odessa-Midland, Texas.”
In thanking Mayman “for an exceptional 25-year career at TEGNA,” Lougee added, “He’s been at the center of our most significant milestones during his tenure and has been a thoughtful and valued counselor to me. I wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.”
Prior to joining TEGNA, Harrison was a corporate attorney in private practice in New York City and Washington, D.C.
