Telemundo launches "El Poder de Saber" PSA effort

This is the eighth year: “El Poder de Saber” (The Power of Knowing) is a multiplatform PSA campaign for the new season and will premiere 5/2 during “Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste” at 5pm ET. The company-wide effort focuses on promoting the educational advancement of young Latinos, with an emphasis on secondary education and preventing high school drop-outs among Hispanic youth.


The on-air component integrates of the issue of education into the upcoming original novela production “Mi Corazon Insiste” (My Heart Insists). In addition, there will be dedicated, recurring segments on the network’s morning show “Levantate,” its early fringe show, “Al Rojo Vivo,” the nightly newscast “Noticiero Telemundo,” and the weekly public affairs program “Enfoque,” as well as the There will also be a series of PSAs starring Telemundo celebrities including Ana Maria Polo, host of the court show “Caso Cerrado,” Rashel Diaz and Omar Germenos of the morning show “Levantate,” sports anchors Jessi Losada and Sammy Sadovnik of “Titulares y Mas,” journalist Vanessa Hauc of Noticias Telemundo, and Jencarlos Canela and Sonya Smith, the stars of various novelas.

This year’s launch will coincide with the start of NBC News’ “Education Nation On-The-Road” tour, a series of week-long local events in key markets featuring panels, officials, educators, parents and students. The tour begins in Chicago 5/1, where Telemundo’s WSNS-TV education reporter Alba Mendiola will cover the activities for the week during the station’s 5pm and 10pm newscasts, including highlights of the Town Hall meeting on 5/1 and a ribbon cutting on 5/2.

During the stop in LA the week of 5/13, Telemundo’s KVEA-TV news’ Azucena Gomez will facilitate a teacher town hall meeting and Azalea Iniguez will join NBC News anchor Brian Williams for the Job One: CEO Panel. “Education Nation” will finish in NYC the week of 9/25, with an event convening policymakers, elected officials, teachers, parents, thought leaders, educators, members of the business community and engaged citizens for a national discussion about the challenges, potential solutions and innovations spanning today’s educational landscape.

mun2, Telemundo’s Latin youth cable network, will support as well through their own original PSAs, weekly in-show mentions and a news special highlighting the issues surrounding education.
