Texas sports talker/candidate exits KTXX-FM

Dan Neil is running as the Republican candidate for the Texas House of Representatives in District 48, which includes parts of Travis County and state capital Austin. And because of that status, he has been taken off of his air shift at KTXX-FM The Horn.

Neil, who handled AMs on the 104.9 MHz sports station, blamed his opponent, incumbent Donna Howard (D). Neil suggested that Howard fears that voters will be swayed by his views on sports matters of the day. But she says it was entirely the decision of the management of the station’s owner, Border Media.

Howard may have had something to do with leading Border to that decision, however. She had been asking for four minutes of advertising time to balance out Neil’s four hours of air time, along with a transcript of his program. According to Statesman.com, Howard says the request was made as a suggestion, not a demand, in a preliminary negotiation.

Border came back and said to forget the whole thing, and said that they were simply going to take Neil off the air until after the election on advice of legal counsel.
