The economy, in a word, is not good

The information gurus at BIGresearch have discovered a marked decrease in the attitude of consumers to their own standard of living since the recession began back in the Fall of 2008. Further, they asked respondents to a survey to describe the economy in one word. All of the top ten selections were negative, and only one of 15 was positive.


The results are from BIGresearch’s American Pulse series of surveys.

Before the recession, 17.1% said their SOL was excellent, with 55.9% saying good, 22% saying fair and 5% saying poor.

Now, those numbers are greatly reduced on the positive end and enhanced on the negative. 3.6% call their SOL excellent, 25.6% say good, 42.3% say fair and 28.5% say poor.

Here are the winning one-word answers that are produced by this economically-disheartened group:

4) Terrible: 4.1%
5) Depressing: 4.1%
6) Sad: 3.8%
7) Horrible: 2.6%
8) Scary: 2.4%
9) Worried: 2.2%
