'The Jay Leno Show' holds at #2 behind CBS

In the time period, “The Jay Leno Show” ranked #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and most other key ratings categories and was #1 among men 18-49 and adults, men and women 18-34.


This marks the ninth consecutive telecast of “The Jay Leno Show” to out-deliver a competing broadcast network in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, dating back to a win over ABC’s “Private Practice” encore on December 10, followed by finishes ahead of CBS’s “Numb3rs” rebroadcast on December 11, ABC’s “Castle” encore on December 14, ABC’s December 15 rebroadcast of “The Forgotten,” ABC’s original “Eastwick” on December 16, ABC’s “Private Practice” encore on December 17 CBS’s December 18 encore of “Numb3rs.” ABC’s December 21 rebroadcast of “Castle” and now this win over ABC’s “Christmas At the White House” encore.

From its first half-hour to its second,  last night’s “Jay Leno” built by 7% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.5 rating from a 1.4), by 15% in men 18-49 (1.5 vs. 1.3) and by 27% in men 18-34 (1.4 vs. 1.1).

Versus Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” comparisons for last night’s telecast are: in adults 18-49, 1.5 vs. 1.4; adults 25-54, 1.8 vs. 1.8; and total viewers, 5.2 million vs. 5.1 million.  Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to Jay’s debut are: in adults 18-49, 1.5 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 1.8 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 5.2 million vs. 6.9 million.

NBC is #2 for the night in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and all other key ratings categories. 

In Late-Night Local People Meters Tuesday night:

Conan O’Brien (1.0/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s LATE SHOW (1.0/4) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.

At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.5/3 in 18-49 in local people meters) trailed CBS’s original LATE LATE SHOW (0.6/3).
