CBS will develop a half-hour comedy based on the life of ESPN personality Colin Cowherd. Bill Martin and Mike Schiff, creators of Grounded for Life, Cavemen and 3rd Rock from the Sun, are the writers and executive producers. Cowherd will serve as a producer. In the deal, Cowherd reportedly sold his life story rights to CBS for the sitcom. Cowherd hosts “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on ESPN Radio as well as ESPN2’s “SportsNation.”

We hope CBS has the formula right this time. In 2005, Jason Alexander starred in the comedy Listen Up, based on the life of former Washington Post columnist and Pardon the Interruption host Tony Kornheiser. The show made it just one season.

Martin and Schiff also executive produced the Rob Riggle pilot “Team Spitz” for CBS last season, but the net decided against it. Martin and Schiff also recently developed the “TMI” and “We Need Girlfriends” projects at CBS.
