The Directors of the Broadcasters Foundation of America surprised their hard-charging chairman Phil Lombardo at the charity’s board meeting at the Columbus Club over the holidays.

As the high council of the broadcasting establishment was about to adjourn, Chairman Emeritus Ed McLaughlin, the multi-millionaire who discovered Rush Limbaugh, slipped a motion on the agenda to name the charity’s famed annual golf tournament in Las Vegas “The Philip J. Lombardo Tournament,” a.k.a. “The Lombardo.”

Lombardo, the Westchester-based mogul who helms Citadel Television and once ran NAB, has raised millions for down and out colleagues.

This year’s tournament is April 11, 2010 in Las Vegas.
