'The NFL of CBS' sees massive viewership, Raves-Chief's most watched

‘The NFL on CBS’ AFC Wild Card game Sunday between the Raves-Chief was the most watched and highest rated in five years.


More people watched THE NFL ON CBS games than any other network, based on a cumulative analysis of Nielsen data. 
 
Through 17 weeks of the 2010 regular season (September 9, 2010-January 2, 2011), THE NFL ON CBS regular-season games were seen by an estimated 164.2 million viewers, 10% higher than NBC’s 149.8 million viewers, 1% higher than FOX’s 162.1 million viewers and 48% higher than ESPN’s 110.9 million.

Overall, THE NFL ON CBS’s estimated 164.2 million viewers is 5% higher than last year’s 17-week regular season (156.5).
 
 The cumulative audience is based on Total Viewers (Persons 2+) who have watched at least six minutes of NFL game coverage since the start of the 2010 regular-season.
 
THE NFL ON CBS’s broadcast of the AFC Wild Card game featuring the Baltimore Ravens defeating the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Jan. 9 (1:06-3:59 PM, ET) averaged 28.467 million viewers (Persons 2+), a 4% increase over 2009’s 27.413 million viewers and was the highest number of viewers in five years for the AFC Wild Card game on CBS dating back to 2006 when 30.369 million viewers watched Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (01/08).

CBS Sports’ coverage of the AFC Wild Card game scored its highest rating in five years with a fast national live + same day household rating/share of 17.1/35, up +1% from last year’s  national rating/share of 16.9/35 for Baltimore at New England (1:00-4:13 PM, ET). This year was the highest-rated AFC Wild Card game on CBS since Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (18.9/34 in 2006; 4:30-7:45 PM, ET).
  
The Baltimore-Kansas City game peaked with an average 32.279 millions viewers and a rating/share of 19.3/38 (3:00-3:30 PM, ET).
