‘The Office’ saves Thursday for NBC, ‘Jay Leno’ at even game

From 8-8:30 p.m. ET, “Community” averaged a 2.0 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49 and 5.1 million viewers overall.  In the time period, “Community” is #1 among the major networks in adults 18-34 and men 18-34.  Last night’s “Community” is up 17% versus NBC’s 18-49 season average in the time period this season prior to the “Community” debut in the slot (2.0 vs. 1.7). 


From 8:30-9 p.m. ET, “Parks and Recreation” delivered a 2.0/6 in adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers overall.  In the time slot, “Parks and Recreation” ranked #1 among the major networks in men 18-34 and #2 among adults 18-34.  “Parks and Recreation” retained its full 18-49 lead-in from “Community” and has now retained 95 percent or more of its 18-49 lead-in with 10 of 10 telecasts in this slot so far this season.

From 9-9:31 p.m. ET, “The Office” averaged a 3.7/7 in adults 18-49 and 7.4 million viewers overall.  In the highly competitive time period, “The Office” was #1 among the major networks in men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54, ahead of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” CBS’s “CSI” and Fox’s “Fringe.”  “The Office” is a heavily time-shifted series, adding an average of 26% to these next-day “live plus same day” numbers in 18-49 so far this season when “live plus 7” results are calculated. 

From 9:31-10:01 p.m. ET, “30 Rock” delivered a 2.9/7 in adults 18-49 and 5.9 million viewers overall.  In the highly competitive time period, “30 Rock” is #1 among the major networks in men 18-34 and men 18-49 ahead of the concluding half-hours of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” CBS’s “CSI” and Fox’s “Fringe.”  “30 Rock” is a heavily time-shifted series, adding an average of 23% to these next-day “live plus same day” numbers in 18-49 so far this season when “live plus 7” results are calculated. 
 
From 10:01-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged a 1.6 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49, a 1.9/5 in adults 25-54 and 4.8 million viewers overall.  Last night’s competition in the time slot included CBS’s “The Mentalist” and ABC’s “Private Practice.”

“The Jay Leno Show” matched its 18-49 rating of the prior Thursday and was up 6% in 25-54 (1.9 vs. 1.8) and 1 percent in total viewers (4.816 million vs. 4.750 million).  If the gain in total viewers stands in official nationals, it will mark the fifth telecast in a row of “The Jay Leno Show” to deliver an increase on its total-viewer result of one week earlier.  In adult 18-49 viewers, “The Jay Leno Show” is currently showing a week-to-week gain (2.168 million vs. 2.065 million) for a fourth consecutive night.

Comparisons with Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” are: in adults 18-49, 1.6 vs. 1.4; in adults 25-54, 1.9 vs. 1.8; and in total viewers, 4.8 million vs. 5.1 million.  Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to the “Jay Leno” debut are: in adults 18-49, 1.6 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 1.9 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 4.8 million vs. 6.9 million.

In Late-Night Local People Meters Thursday night:
Conan O’Brien (0.9/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) topped CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.8/4) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.

At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.5/3 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.5/4).
