'The Office' takes #1 slot ahead of ‘CSI’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

From 8-8:30 p.m. ET, “Community” (2.2/7 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) matched its top 18-49 rating since November 5 and delivered it best total-viewer result since moving to this slot on October 8.  In the time period, “Community” finished #1 among the major networks in men 18-34.  Last night’s “Community” is up 29% versus NBC’s 18-49 average in the time period this season prior to the “Community” debut in the slot (2.2 vs. 1.7). 


From 8:30-9 p.m. ET, “Parks and Recreation” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall) matched its highest 18-49 rating since November 5 and generated its biggest overall audience since that same date.  In the time slot, “Parks and Recreation” ranked #1 among the major networks in men 18-34.  “Parks and Recreation” retained 95% percent of its 18-49 lead-in from “Community” and has now retained 95 percent or more of its 18-49 lead-in with 12 of 12 telecasts in this slot so far this season.
 
From 9-9:31 p.m. ET, “The Office” (4.2/11 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) won the time period in 18-49 and is tied for the #1 telecast of the night on any major network (with CBS’s “Survivor: Samoa”).  “The Office” is also #1 among the major networks in the half-hour among men 18-49 and adults, men and women 18-34, ahead of CBS’s “CSI,” ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” encore and Fox’s “Fringe.”  “The Office” matched its top 18-49 rating since October 22 and delivered its biggest overall audience since that same date.  Versus the prior Thursday, “The Office” is up 6 percent in total viewers (8.5 million vs. 8.0 million).  “The Office” is a heavily time-shifted series, adding an average of 25 percent to these next-day “live plus same day” numbers in 18-49 so far this season when “live plus 7” results are calculated. 

From 9:31-10:01 p.m. ET, “30 Rock” (3.2/9 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) scored its highest results in 18-49 and total viewers since October 22.  In the time period, “30 Rock” finished #2 in adults 18-49 and is #1 among the major networks in adults, men and women 18-34 and men 18-49.  Versus the prior Thursday, “30 Rock” is up 7 percent in 18-49 (3.2 vs.3.0) and 10 percent in total viewers (6.7 million vs. 6.1 million).. 
From 10:01-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged a 1.6 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49, a 1.9/5 in adults 25-54 and 5.0 million viewers overall.  Last night’s competition in the time slot included CBS’s “The Mentalist” and ABC’s “Private Practice” encore.

“The Jay Leno Show” matched its highest 18-49 rating since October 25.  In the time period, “Jay Leno” ranked #2 among the major networks in adults, men and women 18-34; adults and men 18-49; and adults and men 25-54, plus total viewers.  Versus the prior Thursday, “Jay Leno” is up 7 percent in 18-49 (1.6 vs. 1.5) and up 5 percent in total viewers (5.0 million vs. 4.7 million).

Comparisons with Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” are: in adults 18-49, 1.6 vs. 1.4; in adults 25-54, 1.9 vs. 1.8; and in total viewers, 5.0 million vs. 5.1 million.  Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to the “Jay Leno” debut are: in adults 18-49, 1.6 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 1.9 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 5.0 million vs. 6.9 million.

 

In Late-Night Local People Meters Thursday night:

Conan O’Brien (1.1/5 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s LATE SHOW (1.1/5) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.

At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.6/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.6/4).
