The ‘X Platform’ Gets a High-Bandwidth IP Codec Module

An Oslo, Norway-based provider of next-generation video processing platforms for broadcast and streaming has brought to market a new high-bandwidth IP codec module for its X Platform.

The module, says Appear TV, enables content producers and operators to deliver light JPEG XS compression on ultra-low-latency links between uncompressed source and destination devices.

Building on the success of compression functionality launched earlier this year, the new module enables encoding and decoding of uncompressed video over SMPTE 2110, with dual native 40 Gbps interfaces and support for 2x UHD or 6x HD encoders or decoders. The codec delivers JPEG XS encoding and decoding for low latency contribution and video networking links, and up to eight audio essences per video stream.

New input formats and compression features will be released in upcoming software releases.

The X Platform is used in applications such as contribution, end-to-end IP, cable, satellite, terrestrial, IPTV and OTT. It offers encoding/transcoding/decoding, modulation/demodulation and scrambling/descrambling, as well as advanced processing and multiplexing.

“This latest module emphasizes Appear TV’s commitment to continually improving its technology to best support current expectations and exceed all future requirements,” the company says.
