Three named Mildred Carter mentees

The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group Monday announced the 2010 Mildred Carter MIW Group Mentoring Program mentees. The late Mildred Carter and her husband were owners of the first African-American owned radio station in the US, KPRS-AM Kansas City.

Here are the mentees for this year:

— Katerina Perez, General Sales Manager, Clear Channel, Ft. Pierce-Vero-Port St. Lucie, FL
— Shayna Sharpe, Business Development Manager/Regional Reps Corp., Cleveland, OH
— Kirsten Winquist, Music Director/APD & Afternoon Drive Personality KLBJ-FM/ Emmis Austin Radio

Launched in 2002, this is the ninth year of the mentoring program, which matches up-and-coming women in the radio industry with female professionals who are leaders in all aspects of radio.

“We had some outstanding candidates,” said Heidi Raphael, spokesperson for the MIW Group and Vice President of Corporate Communication at Greater Media, Inc. “We look forward to providing an amazing opportunity for Katerina, Shayna and Kirsten to gain valuable knowledge and access to some of the top women in the field of radio broadcasting through the outstanding MIW Group membership.”

RBR-TVBR observation: We’ve said it before, but it is worth repeating. Mildred Carter was an amazing woman and these three “mentees” should be honored to have her name associated with them.
