Thursday 'American Idol' easy winner 'BONES' solid for Fox

With CBS running mostly repeats Thursday night it is hard to get a true reading on this night for Idol against the Eye net.


With a one-hour AMERICAN IDOL auditions episode and an original BONES, FOX won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults18-34, Teens and all key demos. In fact, FOX beat the next highest rated network for the night (NBC) by +132% among Adults 18-49.             

AMERICAN IDOL and BONES were the two highest-rated programs of the night in Total Viewers.                 

AMERICAN IDOL posted a 7.6/21 rating and drew 22.3 million Total Viewers, both down only -3% vs. 1/20/11  
                   
Overall, AMERICAN IDOL shows higher week 2 (Wed/Thurs) vs. week 1 (Tues/Wed) retention than last year in A18-49 (96% vs. 90%) and in Total Viewers (97% vs. 94%)             
         
AMERICAN IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos and out-rated the next highest rated program of the night (The Office) by +90%
 
In addition, AMERICAN IDOL dominated the next highest rated network in the 8p hour by +217% (7.6 vs. ABC’s Wipeout, 2.4) and +148% in Total Viewers (22.3 vs. 9.0 Mil for CBS’ Big Bang Theory repeat/$#*! My Dad Says).                            

BONES:  3.9/10, up +11% vs. 1/20/11 – its highest rated telecast in almost four years (since 2/14/07), in over three years in Adults 18-34 (since 11/6/07) and in almostr one year in Total Viewers (since 2/4/10)             

BONES won its 9p hour among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.  
                        
BONES outperformed the next highest rated net in the 9p hour by +11% (3.9 vs. NBC’s Office/Parks & Rec, 3.5) and +26% in Total Viewers (12.2 vs. 9.7 Mil for CBS’ CSI repeat).           

BONES out-rated its prior season average with originals by +50% in A18-49 (3.9/10 vs. 2.6/8) and +30% in Total Viewers (12.2 vs. 9.4 Mil.)

Competition

Week four of ABC’s Winter Wipeout (2.4/7) posted its lowest rating to date, down -8% from last week. From 9-11p, repeats of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice delivered a 1.5/4 and 1.0/3, respectively.

Following a repeat Big Bang Theory (2.4/7) at 8p, a new episode of CBS’s $#*! My Dad Says (2.3/6) fell to a series low, -18% from last week. Repeats of CSI (2.1/6) and The Mentalist (1.9/5) aired at 9p and 10p.

Week two of NBC’s three-hour Thursday comedy block opened with Community (2.2/6, flat) and Perfect Couples (1.7/4, down -19%) from 8-9p, followed by The Office (4.0/11, down -11%) and Parks & Recreation (3.0/8, down -6%) from 9-10p. 30 Rock (2.4/7) was down -19% at 10p, and Outsourced closed the night with a 1.9/6, up +6%
