Thursday night 'FOX' ranked No. 1 for the night

Last night, Thursday 3/4/10, FOX ranked No. 1 for the night among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and virtually all key demos. In addition, FOX matched its highest rated Thursday night of the season among Adults 18-49 (excluding sports) and posted its highest Total Viewers on a Thursday in nearly a year (since 3/26/09, excluding sports).


AMERICAN IDOL: FOX’s special Thursday AMERICAN IDOL results show posted a 6.5/19 and drew 19.3 million Total Viewers. Versus Thursday’s telecast, IDOL held 100% of its audience among Adults 18-39 and was up +7% in Total Viewers.

IDOL dominated the 8p hour with advantages over the next highest-rated network of +71% among Adults 18-49, +93% among Adults 18-34, +64% among Teens and +52% among Total Viewers.

So far this season (Most Current ratings vs. comparable Most Current), AMERICAN IDOL’s average is on par with the same weeks last year, showing 94% retention among Adults 18-49, 95% among Adults 18-34, 97% among Teens and 95% in Total Viewers.

At 9p, a special KITCHEN NIGHTMARES at 9p posted a 3.3/9 among Adults 18-49, on par with last week’s rating and up +9% in Total Viewers. Last night was the show’s second highest telecast ever in Total Viewers.

Competition
Following an 8p Grey’s repeat (1.2/3), an original episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy (4.0/11) grew from last week but was down -23% from its prior season average with first-run episodes (5.2/13).  At 10p, Private Practice (2.7/8) delivered its lowest original Thursday rating ever, dropping -4% from last week and -25% from its 2009/10 original average (3.6/10).

CBS’ Survivor: All-Stars (3.8/11) gained slightly week over week but was below its prior season average.  At 9p, CSI (3.7/10) gained while the 10p telecast of The Mentalist (3.2/9) was down -14% from its last original on 2/11/10.

NBC’s Community (2.3/7) and Parks & Recreation (2.3/6) were both about average while a special one-hour edition of The Office (4.7/12) benefited from the delivery of Jim & Pam’s baby and was up week over week.  At 10p, the Monday premiere of new reality series The Marriage Ref (3.4/10) fell -31% from its Sunday premiere (4.9/14) and showed significant erosion in its hour, losing -14% of its A18-49 rating from 10p to 1030p (3.7/10 > 3.2/9).
