New ads for the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan will include voiceovers by actor Tim Allen. GM says Allen, the television and film star, will also be the voice of Chevrolet, beginning with TV spots for the Cruze. The first ads air on 9/7.

Joel Ewanick, in charge of GM’s marketing, says Allen “brings the right combination of a recognizable voice with the credibility, likability and humor that will connect with viewers. His passion for all things cars makes him the perfect match for the Chevrolet brand.”

Allen is best known for his work in ABC’s “Home Improvement” and as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the “Toy Story” animated movies. He is a Detroit-area native and has a car collection that includes some GM vehicles.

The pace of Cruze advertising will pick up later this fall as the car begins arriving in volume at dealerships across the U.S. The campaign includes four 30-second television spots via Goodby, Silverstein and Partners, the agency Ewanick hired not long after arriving at GM last spring from Nissan.
