TiVo links charity to recording of Christmas classic

“It’s a Wonderful Life” will be airing on NBC Christmas Eve. While nearly everyone in the US has seen the 1946 movie multiple times, it still draws a big audience. And this year TiVo is making a charitable contribution for each of its customers who records the NBC airing on their TiVo digital video recorder.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” was the most recorded classic holiday program in 2010, and this year TiVo will donate one dollar to Toys for Tots for each recording of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The holiday classic is airing Saturday, December 24 at 8:00 pm ET/7:00 pm CT on NBC.

“We are pleased to have TiVo as a national partner to help raise dollars and awareness for our 2011 campaign,” said retired Marine Major Bill Grein, the vice president of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. “By simply setting a recording and watching with your family and friends, people can give back while enjoying one of the most-loved holiday movies.”
RBR-TVBR observation: Sounds like something that NBC affiliates could get some promotional mileage out of as well.
