After a brief sojourn in second place, NBC waker-upper Today returned to the top slot of the network AM show ratings heap. But ABC challenger Good Morning America is expressing nothing but joy about the horserace the duel has become.

Today’s numbers for the week of 4/16 included 5.253M total viewers, a 1.9/14 25-54 rating and 2.319M households. GMA was right behind with 5.01M total viewers, a 1.6/12 25-54 and 1.94M households. CBS This Morning was a distant third with 2.527M, 0.8/6 and 1.007M respectively.

It marked an important rebound for NBC after the week of 4/9, when GMA drew 5.168 million Total Viewers, to rank No. 1 for the week, outperforming NBC’s “Today” (5.137 million) by +31,000 Total Viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. It marked the first GMA weekly win since 12/4/95.

“We are thrilled where we are right now and our team is delivering a great show every day. A year ago I don’t think anyone would have believed that we would be trading days and weeks with the Today Show,” said Tom Cibrowski, Senior Executive Producer.
