The latest scandal in Washington is a doozy. You’ve probably heard many of the details of the mushrooming Vito Fossella (R-NY) story. A downtown Washington DC drinking party led to a DUI, which led across the Potomac River to Virginia and a second surreptitious family in addition to the known family back in New York, where he represents parts of Staten Island and Brooklyn. His connection to broadcasters? He is a member of the key Energy & Commerce Committee. And he is also a member of the even-more key Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet.
RBR/TVBR observation: Despite our long-time focus and Fossella’s presence on the E&C/T&I tandem, we have no particular recollection of him jumping into the forefront when it comes to broadcasting issues. So all in all, we’d have to say that his contribution to broadcasting is not so much in the form of legislation as it is in the form of content for journalists, to say nothing of late night talk show hosts.
