A Taylor-Made Choice For Townsquare Media

A Twin Cities radio industry veteran who started as an on-air personality at Country KEEY-FM (K102) in Minneapolis in March 2000 before shifting to a lengthy career in sales in April 2003 has just joined Townsquare Media to oversee its entire group of stations in Rochester, Minn.

Taking the role of Market President and Chief Revenue Officer for Townsquare’s stations in this Minnesota market is Ben Taylor.

He’ll continue his role as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Rosemount, and comes to Townsquare after serving as President of a full-serving marketing and advertising agency, Lion’s Gate Marketing, in Minneapolis.

However, for many years before that, Taylor was a Minneapolis-St. Paul radio industry sales pro who led iHeartMedia‘s Twin Cities stations as VP/Sales from March-July 2018, following a promotion from GSM of the cluster. He’d also been LSM for the stations under Clear Channel ownership, and returned to the company’s Minneapolis cluster in September 2011 after serving for 26 months as a Sr. AE for the former CBS Radio stations in the Twin Cities. His first stint with Clear Channel ended in 2006, three years after shifting from on-air to sales.

From March 2007-August 2009, Taylor was a Sr. AE for Hubbard Broadcasting‘s KSTP-AM & FM and KTMY-FM in Minneapolis.

Taylor reports to Townsquare Regional Vice President Kelly Quinn, who said Taylor’s “vast experience in radio and digital, both on-air and in sales, combined with his leadership experience as a coach and volunteer firefighter make him an ideal fit to lead our team in Rochester/Preston.”

Townsquare Media COO of Local Media Erik Hellum called Taylor “a rising star in our business” who “built and led best of class sales teams and understands how we can use the incredible assets we have at Townsquare to meet the needs of our clients.”

The role results from Townsquare’s decision to remove oversight of the company’s stations in Faribault and Owatonna, Minn., from that of its Rochester and Preston, Minn., stations.

As such, Hellum says a dedicated Market President for Faribault/Owatonna will be hired “so our team has the leadership and focus it deserves.”

The Rochester cluster is comprised of Classic Country KFIL-AM 1060 and its 103.1 MHz FM translator; Sports KOLM-AM 1520 “The Ticket”; News/Talk KROC-AM 1340 and 96.9 MHz FM translator; Rock KDZZ-FM 107.7; CHR/Pop KROC-FM 106.9; Classic Hits KFNL-FM 104.3; Country KWWK-FM 96.5; AC KYBA-FM 105.3 and “Musical Doctor” KDOC-FM 103.9, which airs a blend of Rock tracks of the Adult Hits variety.

Townsquare operates four stations in Faribault and Owatonna.
