Tuesday at NBC sees ‘Merry Madagascar’ tied for #2

From 8-8:30 p.m. ET, the holiday special “Merry Madagascar” averaged a 2.9 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49 and 9.0 million viewers overall, unwrapping NBC’s biggest overall viewership in the half-hour in four weeks and second-biggest of the season. 
 
In the time period, “Merry Madagascar” tied for #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49, matching ABC’s “V” in that half-hour and only trailing CBS’s “NCIS.”   The special ranked #2 outright in the time slot in all key adult-female demos.


In the time period, “Merry Madagascar” was dominant among the major networks in kids 2-11, with its 5.6 rating delivering five times the score of the nearest broadcast rival (CBS, 1.1).

From 8:30-10 p.m. ET, “The Biggest Loser” averaged a 3.7 rating, 10 share in adults 18-49 and 9.5 million viewers overall.  Versus its 8-10 p.m. telecast on the same night last year, this 91-minute edition of “Loser” is up 16% in 18-49 (3.7 vs. 3.2) and nearly 1.8 million persons or 23% in total viewers (9.5 million vs. 7.8 million).  In the time period last night, “The Biggest Loser” is tied for #1 among the major networks in adults 18-49 and #1 outright in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49.

For its last hour, from 9-10 p.m., “The Biggest Loser” is #1 among the major networks in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and all key adult-female demographics, ahead of CBS’s “NCIS: Los Angeles,” ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” results show, Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and CW’s “Melrose Place.”  This is the seventh week in a row “Biggest Loser” has beaten all regular major-network competition in the 9 p.m. hour in adults 18-49.

From 10-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged a 2.0/5 in adults 18-49; a 2.4/6 in adults 25-54 and 6.1 million viewers overall.  Last night’s time-period competition included CBS’s “The Good Wife” and ABC’s “The Forgotten.”  Week to week, “Jay Leno” is currently up 5% in 18-49 rating (2.0 vs. 1.9), 9% in 25-54 rating (2.4 vs. 2.2) and 5% in total viewers (6.1 million vs. 5.8 million).

Pending updates, “The Jay Leno Show” matched its highest adult 18-49 rating on any night of the week over the last six weeks (since Tuesday, Oct. 6).  “Jay Leno” matched that six-week high one night after delivering its top Monday rating in four weeks (according to preliminary fast affiliate-based ratings).  In total viewers, Tuesday’s 6.1 million persons is the biggest overall audience for “The Jay Leno Show” on any night of the week in more than three weeks, since Friday, October 23 (6.2 million, Michelle Obama appears on “10 at 10”).

In the time period, “The Jay Leno Show” is #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34, ahead of the ABC drama “The Forgotten,” and is tied for #1 in men 18-49 and men 18-34.

Versus Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” comparisons for last night’s telecast are: in adults 18-49, 2.0 vs. 1.4; adults 25-54, 2.4 vs. 1.8; and total viewers, 6.1 million vs. 5.1 million. 

Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to Jay’s debut are: in adults 18-49, 2.0 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 2.4 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 6.1 million vs. 6.9 million).

In Late-Night Local People Meters Tuesday night:

Conan O’Brien (1.0/5 in 18-49 in local people meters) defeated CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.8/4) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.

At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.6/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) topped CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.5/3).
