Tuesday’s 2 hour ‘American Idol’ wins the night over Olympics

Through five hours in head-to head-competition, AMERICAN IDOL is beating NBC’s Olympics by a substantial +48% among Adults 18-49 (8.6/21 vs. 5.8/14), +74% among Adults 18-34 (7.3/20 vs. 4.2/12), +87% among Teens (5.9/19 vs. 3.2/10) and +3% in Total Viewers (22.9 vs. 22.3 Mil.)


AMERICAN IDOL – TUE
* For the second week in a row FOX’s AMERICAN IDOL-TUE dominated the competition for the night, showing an advantage of +65% among Adults 18-49, +95% among Adults 18-34, +107% among Teens and +13% in Total Viewers. FOX won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.

* Compared to last week’s performance on Tuesday, AMERICAN IDOL retained an impressive 97% among Adults 18-49 (8.9/22 vs. 9.2/23) and gained in Total Viewers (24.0 vs. 23.9 Mil.)

* So far this season, AMERICAN IDOL’s average is on par with the same weeks last year, showing 93% retention among Adults 18-49 (9.5/25 vs. 10.2/25), 93% among Adults 18-34 (8.2/24 vs. 8.8/25), 95% among Teens (7.3/24 vs. 7.7/24) and 94% in Total Viewers (25.2 vs. 26.7 Mil.)

Competition
Following an 8p Lost repeat (1.6/4), week four of ABC’s Lost delivered a 4.6/11 at 9p, down -10% from its prior average this season (5.1/13).  At 10p, The Forgotten (1.7/5) was on par.

CBS aired NCIS (2.3/6), NCIS: LA (1.9/4) and The Good Wife (1.4/4) repeats.

Night twelve of NBC’s Vancouver Olympics delivered a 5.4/14 from 8-11p, down -28% from night twelve of the most recent Winter Games in Torino, Italy which posted a 7.5/18 on 2/21/06.  Through twelve nights, the Vancouver Games are outperforming the 2006 Games among Adults 18-49 (6.9/19 vs. 6.4/16) and Total Viewers (25.2 vs. 21.0 Mil).
