Here’s a little news item channel surfing: Gray joins NBCU’s TV Everywhere, Bounce adds PBC, Rentrak adds Lilly, consumer TV upgrades are gaining momentum and MVPDs reversed a sub loss trend last quarter.
* Gray Television has pacted with NBCUniversal in a deal that will put Gray’s NBC affiliates on TV Everywhere, making the Gray station accessible on the service’s mobile and internet plaftorms.
* Bounce TV, which has been making a living primarily as a strong option for digital side channel broadcasting, has a multi-year deal in place with Premier Boxing Champions. The once-a-month two-hour feature will kick off in July.
* Rentrak will be providing its services to Lilly Broadcasting, a television company with assets in Erie PA and Elmira NY. In Erie, Lilly has CBS and CW on WSEE and WSEE2, and in Elmira it has the rights to ABC and CBS on WENY and WENY2.
*4K/Ultra HD television is expected to have a rapid growth trajectory in the US, according to Strategy Analytics. Consumer options will increase rapidly, as will shipments, and US ownership is expected to close in on 50% by 2020.
* Traditional MVPDs actually picked up subscribers in the US and Canada during Q4 2014, according to Strategy Analytics, reversing a two-quarter downward trend. US services picked up 101K new subs, with another 5K added in Canada.
