Two hour ‘American Idol’ gives Fox Wednesday win

The Girls out shined the Guys as FOX swept the night across all demos last night, dominating the next-highest rated network by +204% among Adults 18-49, +300% among Adults 18-34, +342% among Teens and +124% in Total Viewers.   


In fact, FOX beat the combined 4-net average for the night by +15% among Adults 18-49, +31% among Adults 18-34 and +71% in Teens.

AMERICAN IDOL’s Top 10 Girls performance show posted an 8.5/23 among Adults 18-49 and drew 23.5 million Total Viewers, on par in Adults 18-49 and up +2% in Total Viewers versus last Wednesday

Compared to the performance night during the same week of Season 8 (2/25/09), last night’s IDOL retained 93% of Adults 18-49 and 96% of Total Viewers.

Season to date (Most Current vs Comparable Most current), AMERICAN IDOL is retaining 95% of its audience among Adults 18-49. Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers, and 99% among Teens.

Competition
Following a repeat Modern Family (1.7/5) at 8p, original episodes of ABC’s comedies were well below their last original telecasts on 2/10/10.  The Middle (2.1/6) was down -28%, Modern Family (3.5/9) was down -15% and Cougar Town (2.4/6) was down -11%. At 10p, Oprah Winfrey’s Oscar Special delivered a 1.3/4.

CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine (1.7/5) was down -26% from its last original on 2/10/10 and matched its lowest rated original episode of the season. Gary Unmarried (2.0/5) fell -17% from its last original on 2/10/10, while Criminal Minds (3.6/9) and CSI: NY (3.1/9) were about average.

NBC’s Mercy (1.6/5) was down -11% from its last original on 2/10/10, followed by a Law & Order: SVU (2.7/7) that was up significantly from its last original telecast.
