Two-hour 'American Idol' wins across key demos Wednesday

The two-hour AMERICAN IDOL Top 3 performance show gave FOX the Wednesday win across all key demos and beat the 4-net competition by +7% among Adults 18-49 (7.2 vs. 6.7 for ABC/CBS/NBC/CW) and +6% in Total Viewers (23.0 vs. 21.6 Mil.).


In addition, FOX beat the next highest rated network last night by +227% in the adult demo and +153% in Total Viewers.

AMERICAN IDOL:  7.2/19, up +1% from last week (and will likely go up more in the finals, as it has for the past several weeks)

IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos, beating the next highest rated program by +80% in the core adult demo (7.2 vs. Modern Family’s 4.0) and +84% in Total Viewers (23.0 vs. Criminal Minds’ 12.5 Mil.)

Versus the same telecast last season, last night’s AMERICAN IDOL grew +7% among Adults 18-49 and +23% in Total Viewers (23.0 vs. 18.7 Mil.) 

Competition
Following an original episode of The Middle at 8p (2.4/7, up +9%) and a repeat The Middle at 8:30p (1.8/5), ABC’s Modern Family (4.0/10, down -7%) and Cougar Town (2.0/5, down -13%) both suffered declines. Back-to-back episodes of new comedy Happy Endings aired at 10p (1.6/4, down -6%) and 1030p (1.3/3, down -7% and is its lowest rating to date).

Following a repeat Criminal Minds at 8p (1.4/4), the season finale of CBS’ Criminal Minds (3.3/8) was up +6% from its finale last spring (which aired against the AMERICAN IDOL finale). Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2.0/5) finished the night with its lowest performance to date, down -5% from its last telecast.

On NBC, and original Minute to Win It (1.0/3, up +11%) aired at 8p followed by a repeat Minute to Win It at 9p (0.9/2). At 10pm, the season finale of  Law & Order: SVU posted a 2.8/7, up +4% from last Spring’s finale.
