Two-hour season-premiere ‘America's Got Talent’ gives NBC victory

Last night, the fifth season premiere of NBC’s“ America’s Got Talent” won its time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and most key measures, posting strong year-over year gains, versus tough competition that included a first-run episode of “Glee,” and the season debuts of “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Wipeout,” according to “fast affiliate-based” “live plus same day” viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.  Additionally, the series debut of “Losing It with Jillian” won its slot in adults 18-49 and other key measures. 


Last night from 8-10 p.m. ET, the fifth season premiere of “America’s Got Talent” (3.6 rating, 11 share in adults 18-49, 12.3 million viewers overall) won its tough time period in adults, men and women 18-49, adults, men and women 25-54 and total viewers, topping such competition as Fox’s season debut of “Hell’s Kitchen” and an original episode of “Glee” and ABC’s season premiere of “Wipeout.”

Versus last year’s season premiere, last night’s “Talent” debut was up 13 percent in adults 18-49 (3.6 vs. a 3.2 on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from 9-11 p.m.) and up 7 percent in total viewers (12.3 million versus 11.5 million).

Excluding Olympics, “Talent” scored NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in this slot since January 26 and biggest overall viewership in the time period, excluding Olympics, since December 8, 2009 (“The Biggest Loser” finale).

“America’s Got Talent” grew from its first half-hour to its fourth by 50 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 4.2/11 from a 2.8/9) and by 31 percent or more than 3.2 million persons in total viewers (to 13.6 million from 10.4 million). 

Last night from 10-11 p.m. ET, the series premiere of “Losing It with Jillian” (2.7/8 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) won its time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and in all key adult-female demographics – women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. “Losing It with Jillian” matched NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in this time period since April 20 and delivered the network’s biggest overall audience in the slot since that same date.

NBC won all six hours of primetime in the key demographic of adults 18-49, pending updates.
