Univision gets all rights to Chivas de Guadalajara

UnivisionUnivision Deportes will become the U.S. home of Chivas de Guadalajara, one of the most popular soccer teams in the US and Mexico. The multi-year deal is effective July 2013 and includes all languages.


“This deal reinforces Univision’s commitment to provide the best and most relevant programming to Hispanic audiences,” said Cesar Conde, president of Univision Networks. “We are pleased to continue to deliver the culturally relevant content our audience seeks, while creating opportunities for our partners to connect with the fastest growing consumer segment in the nation.”

The agreement will grant Univision Deportes the rights to all of Chivas’ Liga MX, Copa Mexico and worldwide friendlies.

Chivas is the most successful team in Liga MX, the premiere soccer league in Mexico, having won 11 First Division titles, and many other titles. Univision Deportes now has the most significant portfolio of Mexican soccer in the U.S. In addition to Chivas, Univision holds exclusive U.S. media rights to the home games of Toluca, Pumas de la UNAM, Monterrey, Tigres de la UANL, América, Pachuca, Tijuana, Santos, San Luis, Queretaro, Atlas and Atlante, plus away games for the rest of the league’s teams.
