Univision puts Walker over local TV and radio groups

Peter Walker has been named to the newly created position of president of Univision Local Media, effective July 12th. Walker, who spent 17 years at various leadership positions at the Tribune Company, will be based in New York and will report to Joe Uva, President and CEO of Univision Communications. Joanne Lynch, President of the Univision Television Station Group, will retire after nearly 20 years with the company at the end of August.

In his new role, Walker will oversee Univision Local Media, a newly created division which reflects the realignment of all operations and sales for Univision’s local television stations, Univision Radio and local interactive properties into one division. He will work closely with David Lawenda, president of Advertising Sales and Marketing, to coordinate and align local and national sales efforts, as well as with Alina Falcon, president of Univision News, to streamline local programming operations.

“Organizing all aspects of our local operations under Univision Local Media will enable us to provide seamless service to our local advertisers, identify new ways to grow our relationships with our clients and partners, and leverage our local programming and content across the Company’s platforms to enhance our local offerings for our audiences. Peter is the ideal person to lead this important charge for our Company, and we are thrilled to have someone of his caliber and industry reputation join the Univision family. We are confident that his visionary leadership, unique local sales and operations expertise, and track record of success will be instrumental in guiding the growth of our centralized local operations,” said Uva.
“Univision has an extremely unique and enviable position in the overall media landscape and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to help further the Company’s growth through the potential inherent in the Company’s local operations,” said Walker.
