Mexico vs. Honduras Match Smashes Records as the Top Primetime Sports Telecast Ever on Univision and Third Behind 2010 World Cup Matches.

June 22 Match also Ranks as #1 Program of the Entire Day in Several Local Markets and in Los Angeles Ranks as the #1 Program Thus Far in June Among Key Demos.

Univision’s exclusive coverage of Wednesday night’s Mexico vs. Honduras match – part of the 2011 CONCACAF Copa Oro (Gold Cup) – has broken records as the top primetime sports telecast ever on Univision and third in the history of the network behind the 2010 World Cup final game and the 2010 Mexico vs. Argentina World Cup match. The Mexico vs. Honduras game was the #1 program of the night ahead of every other primetime telecast, regardless of language, among Persons 12-34, Adults 18-34, Men 18-34, Men 18-49. While 10.9 million viewers tuned in to all or part of Mexico’s win, Univision scored another goal over its English-language competition as the most watched primetime network, regardless of language, among Men 18-34 – more than ABC, CBS and FOX combined.

On Univision local stations, the Mexico vs. Honduras match was the #1 broadcast program of the entire day, regardless of language, in several markets. In Los Angeles, it ranked as the #1 program thus far in June and had higher viewership than every NBA Finals game among Adults 2+, Adults 18-49, Men 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Men 18-34. The game also scored as the #1 broadcast program of the entire week, from June 16 to June 22, in several local markets among key demos.

In Los Angeles and Houston, the Univision local station had three times the combined viewership of the ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC stations among Men 18-49 and Adults 18-34. And among Men 18-34, Univision local stations had more than twice the combined viewership of the ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC stations in New York, Miami and Dallas; and more the three times the combined viewership in Los Angeles, Houston and San Francisco.

In addition, Univision’s broadcast of the match between USA and Panama earlier in the night broke records as the most watched non-Mexico Copa Oro match ever on the network, averaging 3.2 million viewers. On Univision local stations, coverage of the USA vs. Panama match was the #1 broadcast program during the time period in several markets.

The Copa Oro tournament comes to an end this Saturday, June 25 live from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Airing on Univision Network, the final match of Copa Oro begins with the hour-long pre-game special “Antesala a la Copa Oro” (Prelude to the Gold Cup) airing at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 7:00 p.m. CT/ 5:00 p.m. PT. With Univision’s renowned group of announcers and commentators, the final match airs live at 9:00 p.m. ET/ 8:00 p.m. CT/ 6:00 p.m. PT, followed by an hour-long post-game special where sportscaster Fernando Fiore will host the closing ceremonies and trophy presentation live from the field.
